OK, boys and girls, the fishing season is officially open as of Wednesday when the fluking started. And it started very nicely with mid-July weather and although the fluking was pretty good, the fluke eating wasn’t that great. Plenty of shorts to cull through to get some keepers. Some guys got their limits, but remember the limit is only three this year, but most could only scratch out a fish or two. But that will improve when the water warms up a bit.

But there was a bonus of blues and a mix of short and keeper striped bass in front of the Light munching on diamond jigs which added a little excitement. But that will improve too, based on the 48 lb. bass that Paul Pira weighed in at Paulies over the weekend.

I’m hearing that the porgie fishing back in Peconic and at Cherry Harbor isn’t what it was over the last couple of seasons, so that might be a bit of downer news.
