Montauk Sportfishing Report 6/5/17

Fluke fishing picked up some but it still isn’t what it should be. The exception was Friday and Saturday when there was a hot bite at the Northgrounds. But two days fishing with all the headboats and a twenty or so charter and rec boats working it over left it pretty well picked clean. But at least the fluke are now all over the place instead of just on the south side. And there are plenty of seabass around although that won’t really mean anything for another three weeks when the season opens. And if you want porgies you don’t have to travel over the Cherry Harbor anymore; there are plenty on the south side.

Striped bass fishing is very good at least with the parachutes, with the charterboats easily picking up limits along with a fair amount of bluefish. I haven’t heard much more about diamond jigging and based on the commercial striped bass guys who fish downriggers with umbrella rigs, that isn’t working very well either.
