Each year I hear more and more about Deep Drop Tilefishing, more guys looking for rods, reels, rigs, & how to...but there is very little information to satisfy all these questions. On 6PM Saturday I have set up a seminar at my shop in Staten Island with Captain Jeff from the Voyager. Jeff's primary fishing is Offshore & Deep Dropping is his specialty, he will be discussing everything you need to know to get started, or to improve your Tile game, answering all questions you have. in addition, Dave from The Reel Seat fishing shop in NJ will be assisting Jeff answering Q's. He has come up with rigs which work day in and day out for DDT. I just got off the phone with another Deep Drop Specialist, Fishing United's own EC Newellman will be in attendance and offering advice and some of hte knowledge he has amassed over his lifetime of fishing. If you are interested, the fee is $25, we'll probably have some beers, drinks and snacks. E-mail me at xlrods@yahoo.com to sign up.

I was pretty excited learning from Bllly about the upcoming TILE FISH seminar for this weekend. In fact what you will hear, see and to actually get to handle some of the the tackle that Captain Jeff and Dave Arbeitman of the REEL SEAT and Billy have come up is much of what I was going to use in the upcoming article on TIle Fish gear!
Even those who have a few tile fish rods in their collection will get a good idea on the selection of off the rack, and custom rods Captain Jeff, Dave and Billy recommend. I emphasize this point since it is one of the critical pieces of tackle not only when you choose different types of sinker weights which can vary from 20 oz to 8 lbs, but more importantly, being comfortable for you to be able to fish with throughout a whole fishing trip.
You will also learn what the experts recommend on such common questions about this fishery:
- Most important, picking out the proper tile fish rods to use on these trips
- Knots or Crimps? - Is a two speed reel really necessary - Electric reels, positives and negatives / on and about their use - One or two hook rigs - Circle, J style or standard hooks for tiles - Are Custom tied tile fish rigs necessary? - What pound test braid to use - Sinkers/sinker weights needed and where to purchase - How long and what lb test top shots should I use - Knowing what to expect during a tile fish trip - Sea creatures caught during these trips - Various gear required
I cannot say enough about this seminar that Billy has planned, and for those who are interested not only new to tile fishing, but for those who do it throughout the season and want to learn more about it, but in getting to speak with the experts who fish out on the grounds or supply the tackle, this is the seminar to make.
I hope to see many of you there, and for more information, contact BILLY at the email address below or at:

Captain Jeff is a full time captain, who is taking time out of his schedule to make this happen. He's running a trip during the day, going home cleaning up and running up to Staten Island to do this. YOu are welcome to come and attend, you just have to make a little bit of a sacrifice to learn more about fishing, giving up a rainy Saturday night in April. If you have nothing to do during the day, you are more than welcome to attend the OTHER event that I have going on, a surf rod test casting event. For more info on that one: http://northeastrodbuilders.com/gatheringschedule.html

Steve that made too much sense for me to just post the info in here, lol. Thanks.
Thank you for coming yesterday and helping out. The amount of notes you took was IMPRESSIVE!!! lol. The guys who showed up were treated to one hell of a seminar last night. This is the second fishing seminar I've done in my shop - I think I need to move these to a bigger location. What I like about my shop is 23 people fit around a pool table, I do not wan tto lost that intimacy, but I think a larger venue will be more comfortable.
Awesome day yesterday!!
