The Department of Education stands behind the principal saying that Hawkins found the lyrics “too grown up” for 5-year-olds.

Is this the statement the Department of Education would publicly give as the reason for not singing "God Bless the USA?"

Hawkins, who sits during the morning Pledge of Allegiance because she is a Jehova’s Witness, has also been quoted as saying “I’m black. Your previous principal was white and Jewish. More of us are coming,” during a previous staff meeting.

I believe in the First Amendment, and she is entitled to make even the most outlandish statements.....but as someone who is being paid by the taxpayer and responsible for the education of our children, statements such as this do deserve a time-out in a 'rubber room' and maybe will result in an attitude adjustment when it comes to both honoring this country and racial sensitivity.

Goodness, we are living in such tenuous times where this is a given a pass.

Nanny Bloomberg, how about a public comment about this, instead of breaking the chops of people who want super-sized slurpees........

People like that should be encouraged to keep talking. In no time at all she will make a complete ass of herself and destroy any credibility she may have had. Given enough rope people like this are sure to hang themselves.

Fort Hood Report Doesn't Mention Islam

By Kevin Spak,

Posted Jan 20, 2010 2:16 PM CST

The military’s new report on the Fort Hood shooting only once names alleged shooter Nidal Hasan and never discusses his religion, which has critics howling. Several lawmakers want an explanation for those omissions, including Homeland Security Committee chair Joe Lieberman. Lieberman tells Time he’s “disappointed” because the inquiry “does not adequately recognize the specific threat posed by violent Islamist extremism to our military.”

Though the report is titled Protecting the Force: Lessons from Fort Hood, only one page is devoted to “Oversight of the Alleged Perpetrator.” Most of the report is devoted to personnel policies, and emergency shooting response procedures. “Our concern is with actions and effects, not necessarily with motivations,” said one leader of the review. But critics argue that the motives led to the murders, and ought to be examined—whatever the political correctness implications.

Banned From NYC Tests: Dinosaurs, Aliens, Birthdays
Officials ban 50 subjects from city-wide assessment tests
By Evann Gastaldo,
Posted Mar 26, 2012 1:49 PM CDT

New York City test-makers are going to have a hard time coming up with acceptable questions to place on students' tests, after officials decided to ban 50 subjects including dinosaurs and birthdays. Why? Because those topics have been deemed potentially controversial, and could make kids upset: Dinosaurs, for example, could remind them of evolution; birthdays got banned because Jehovah’s Witnesses don't celebrate them.

The banned topics "could evoke unpleasant emotions in the students," the officials explained in a request for proposals—the city is looking for a company to revamp some of the annual city-wide assessment tests. Also among the 50 banned subjects, per the New York Post, which notes that while other states do have "sensitivity guidelines," none come close to being this long.

Dancing, except ballet, because some groups object to it
Words suggesting poverty or wealth, including homes that have pools or computers (but a question about a computer in a school is legit)
References to divorce or disease, because some children may have relatives dealing with those things
"Creatures from outer space"
Celebrities
References to excessive TV-watching or video-game-playing
Animals or inanimate objects with human characteristics

Anti-terrorism instructor fired over politically incorrect material

Jim Kouri
Law Enforcement Examiner

A top United States counterterrorism expert who taught a course that familiarized military officers with the U.S. war with radical Islamists was fired from the college and the course was removed from the curriculum, according to a U.S. police counterterrorism expert.

The police source told the Law Enforcement Examiner that he was informed the course materials would be revamped to exclude references to Islam and use terms such as extremists or militants.

While the Pentagon and most news media outlets did not name the instructor, the Law Enforcement Examiner source claims the fired instructor was Lt. Col. Matthew A. Dooley and that he was removed from the faculty permanently for telling students practitioners of Islam are responsible for terrorism.

"One can only wonder how much protection of Catholicism and Christianity would receive from this Administration and its media sycophants -- such as TV host Bill Maher -- when they verbally attack Christians," said former police commander and military officer Mike Snopes.

According to a source, Joint Forces Staff College course included a slide-show that told students -- mostly battle-hardened officers -- that the U.S. is fighting a life and death battle with Islamists and that "we need to recognize that the U.S. and its allies are at war with Islam."

According to the American Forces Press Service's Jim Garamone, General Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, had ordered a thorough review of the course on Islam and military education in general after a Muslim soldier complained about the content of the course entitled "Perspectives on Islam and Islamite Radicalism" at the Joint Forces Staff College in Norfolk, Virginia.

JFSC educates military officers and other national security leaders in joint, multinational, and interagency operational-level planning and warfare, counterterrorism and other subjects.

"The study also recommends that the Staff College modify its processes for reviewing and approving course curricula while improving oversight of course electives," Garamone wrote.

The elective course relied on outside instructors who emphasized negative aspects of Islam. The review found that a lack of leadership on the course contributed to the problem, leading to an unbalanced approach to teaching the subject matter. The course is suspended and will not be offered again until changes are in place, officials said, and the military instructor has been relieved of instructor duties.

According to the Law Enforcement Examiner source, it's believed the complaining soldier, whose identity is being protected, may be a pawn of some of the Muslim groups such as the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) or Muslim Advocates, who are currently suing the New York City Police Department.

A Pentagon spokesman stated earlier this year that Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta was deeply upset with a course that promulgates the notion the United States is at war with Islam.

"This politically correct nonsense would be laughed at if we had a reality check now and then. On the one hand, the majority of terrorist attacks worldwide are perpetrated by radical Muslims who actually apply the teachings of the Koran. Anyone who studies the history of Islam, especially within the last two hundred years will discover what America faces is not new," said the counterterrorism source.

"The CAIR group is considered by some to be a front-group for radical Islamists -- several of whom are currently in prison or deported -- and frequently supports certain Democratic politicians who do their bidding. Rep. John Conyers of Michigan is a perfect example," the counterterrorism source alleges.

Counterterrorism experts condemned by CAIR include Walid Phares, Robert Spencer, Bill Getz, Pam Geller and others who "refuse to sugarcoat the Islamic terrorism threat," said Mike Snopes.

People are actually against banning welfare funds being spent at strip clubs and gun shops?

States restrict welfare buying
By Marisol Bello, USA TODAY

More states are enacting or considering laws that prohibit people who get welfare cash from spending it on liquor, cigarettes, strip clubs, gambling and guns -- laws that even supporters say are difficult to enforce.

Ten states have passed such laws, and at least 14 are considering them, the National Conference of State Legislatures says.

Under a new federal law, all states must prevent the use of cash benefits in liquor stores, gambling establishments and adult entertainment businesses by 2014. States that fail to establish policies face cuts in federal support.

Welfare recipients use debit cards to buy things or get cash at ATMs. A report by the House Ways and Means committee cited news reports in eight states about people with welfare debit cards withdrawing thousands of dollars from ATMs in casinos, liquor stores and strip clubs.

Last year, 4.4 million people received cash benefits ranging from $200 to $1,000 a month, paid by federal and state governments. The federal government share was more than $16.5 billion.

Food stamps pay for food, and welfare cash is supposed to be for non-food necessities, but states find it difficult to police.

"Until we figure out how to program the machines, it's tough to stop someone from taking cash out of an ATM and buying liquor," says New York state Sen. Thomas Libous, a Republican from Binghamton. His bill to restrict the use of cash welfare passed the state Senate in June but has not been introduced in the Assembly.

The laws are meaningless because they can't restrict how someone spends the cash once it is in hand, says Elizabeth Lower-Basch, a policy analyst for CLASP, an advocacy group for low-income people. "It's a way for legislators to look like they are on top of things," she says.

Last year, Massachusetts passed a law that prohibits spending cash assistance on alcohol, tobacco and lottery tickets. But it is "not possible to pinpoint what is being purchased, as many retail stores sell a variety of products including food, household items, alcohol and tobacco," says Alec Loftus, a spokesman for the Office of Health and Human Services.

In Massachusetts, clients must pay back misused money, and store owners who knowingly let welfare recipients spend the money on prohibited items can be fined up to $1,000 -- but Loftus says no one has turned in any violators.

Mass. Gov. Deval Patrick vetoes ban on purchasing tattoos, manicures, porn with EBT

By Caroline May

Massachusetts Democratic Gov. Deval Patrick has vetoed the state legislature’s attempt to ban the use of EBT cards — or food stamps — to purchase items such as tattoos, porn and jewelry.

Patrick vetoed the reforms Sunday while signing the state’s $32.5 billion budget.

According to the Boston Herald, which first reported the veto, the governor berated the legislature’s stab at banning the purchase of specific items like manicures, tattoos, guns, porn, body piercings, jewelry, and bail by saying the move was “political grandstanding” at a time when such reforms are already on track elsewhere.

“I’m not going to do anything that makes vulnerable people beg for their benefits. This notion of humiliating poor people has got to be separated from how we make a program, and frankly separated and disposed of, from how we make a program work and work well,” Patrick said, according to Wicked Local Hanson.

Patrick allowed bans on the use of EBT cards in establishments known for the sale of seemingly controversial items — such as tattoo parlors, gun shops, casinos, cruise ships, and adult entertainment facilities —- to stand.

House Minority Leader Brad Jones pointed out, however, that the items slated to be banned — such as porn and guns — could still be purchased at other facilities.

The Massachusetts governor based his decision on the independent EBT Card Commission’s ruling that banning specific items was, among other reasons, difficult to enforce, according to The Herald. He did however, veto bans on the use of EBT in places like nail salons and jewelry stores.

The vetoed reforms were reportedly a bipartisan effort out of both houses of the state legislature.

Democratic state Rep. Russell Holmes said that there remains support for real change to the EBT program.

“It is still something that’s very much a priority for the Legislature. Clearly we’ve gotten this far,” Holmes told the Herald.
