Captree is on FIRE "IF" you have the right tide

Diane and i arrived at the Pier about 6:30 a.m.. First traps went in around 7:00 a.m. The tide was still outgoing, and the current was ripping. The weeds made Crabbing very difficult, as they would catch the lines and force the trap doors shut. So the traps required constant cleaning. We had a slow pick of quality (over 5") Crabs until the tide went slack (around 11:30), then all hell broke loose, as every trap picked had anywhere between 2 - 5 nice Crabs, after only a 5-7 min soak. We only kept crabs 5" or larger, and by 1:00 we called it quits ( had our legal limit), despite the fact that we were still getting 2-5 crabs per trap.
We released at least 100 smaller crabs and egg carrying females. We brought along 10 traps but never used more than 7. I even managed to scoop up 15 or so large crabs, and i got a bonus 6" softie. Bluegills were our bait of choice. These were some of the largest, fullest, cleanest Crabs that we have ever taken from Captree.
Note: if you go there, you must get the slack/ incomming tide. Also, there was some damage done to the front of the pier ( It was dammaged when a large Boat smashed into it). So 150 or so ft of the pier is closed for repairs. You can only access the pier from the playground entrance.
