My Turn!!!!
Let's start with Captain Greg. I would venture to say that there is no Captain that tries hard (and suceeds) on putting you on fish then this Captain. If he is in charge, after this trip (and I suspect before) sign up fast as the spots will fill fast. He knows his stuff right to the type of fish before he gets to that location. Super great guy who wears himself out putting you on fish (every stop). As for the mates, Gino and Matt were literally everywhere. I was tired after 10 hours, and their day almost just began. Always cheerful too. Damned if I could figure out how they put in 18 hour days and still stay pleasant. My next trip will not be planned according to what and how we fish, it will be on whether or not Captain Greg, Gino and Matt and part of the crew. Let's not forget that Joe (the Galley cheif) could start and finish a day with a great meal.
As for the fishing. Haddock, Cod, Pollock, cusk and Hake were caught (also too many to mention dog fish and 450 lbs blue tips. The sharks did pose a problem at a few of the stops, but they also added some excitement. Seems like they liked the Haddock and Cod the best and they ate WELL. Also, they liked the bigger ones the best (go figure). There are many times when pool fish (or biggest for that great rod give away) changed hands because of the "Taxman". Huges heads with no bodies kept many from first place. I can't think of anyone who didn't loose a battle with a 450 lb shark, or too many weights, hooks and/or jigs. Still, the Captain kept us off them the best anyone could have. Steve said he had never seen as many and I'd have to agree. There was one time when the pollock hit so hard that I really think that all 27 people had one on at the same time. You never saw so may smiles. It may be that folks didn't keep "all" there pollock, but everyone must have caust a dozen at the one stop. Fast and furious was my name for that place. There was a real good bite on the haddock at a couple of the stops. I didn't realize how many of the fish I had were haddock until I went home and processed them. I got to the point where I stopped labelling the Primo fish bags. Anyway, 117 fish later, I was done! Guys, not a slow minute (unless you wanted it). Not a better crew out there, and I would like to say that I met a few great guys that I will fish with agai. Thank you Captain, Mates, Joe and Alana for my trip of a life time.
