AUG 6, 2012 - LOTS TO CATCH UP ON - WATCH OUT FOR THE NEXT NY BIGHT INSIDER

I have been a little behind in posting NY BIGHT INSIDER reports over the past month. Information and stories have been piling up, and I just haven't had the spare time to piece it together.

I do want to say here though, I have been giving some thought to what one of the most noted wreck fishing captains told me about internet fishing sites and fishing reports (and NO he is not from Sheepshead Bay) and the mindset of fishermen who just go to fishing sites to just read the reports instead of making the reports. As he said, "it has changed the dynamic of people just going fishing, to go fishing", as convoluted as it may sound.

I will tell 'you-all', I agree with him.....

Finally I just will point out here that there will be a great shake up coming very soon to the groundfish industry, both commercial, for-hire and recreational. The ramifications will drastically effect many, especially for those who have 'skin in the game', and rely on groundfish to catch and sell, or for carrying customers during the season.

For those out there who keep telling everyone, "all is well", we will see come 2013.

Hopefully I can get some time to put it all together. For the time being, go over and carefully read Nils Stolpe's essay and Captain Monty's blog. This is the information that should be focused upon and discussed within these fishing websites. The insight is right on the money on what is going on within the fishing industry and more so, within our ocean....and it effects everyone who fishes and/or enjoys eating seafood.
