Hey bigguy, take a browse through many of my older posts. I have written a few things about White Perch.
They are a very elusive fish. But think along the same lines of Striped Bass and really strip your tackle down a bit. They like lures and baits. 2" Tsunami shads, Mepps Spinners, and 1/2 krocodiles work very well. I have caught them on small poppers in the past as well. They behave like Small Striped Bass would. They have small mouths as well, so be prepared on that as well.
Grass shrimp work the best on a float, hard to present it, but works great. Sunken Meadow Creek is a good one, I like to fish near the bridge there, and right by the outflow in those deep pools I have done well in the past. Expect to catch two or three fish in an area and prepare to move as they move with tides frequently. I have found them to blitz like Striped Bass in the Fall as well.
Carmans River is an excellent spot if you know how to get to them. Shoreline access is poor for them there but on a kayak you can some slobs, as well with some nice trout. I run into them trolling usually, or pick up a schoolie Bass. They frequently mix together. Parking is no longer safe as that is quite a rough area and leaving my car behind asks for trouble.
Parts of the Nissy and Connie have them, no idea where in the Nissy, but know the Connetquot.
Long island hold some large ones up to 3lb, and they are a great eating fish from clean waters. Avoid eating them from Sunken Meadow as there is a lot of runoff there and the fish stay local all year round.
Tides are important along with time of day. I like the last two hours of outgoing the most usually in most areas. Others like different tides better. But last two hours of outgoing at dawn and you are sure to catch something usually.
