Quantum Cabo LPT 20

Guys:

Any Reviews on this reel??? Personal Experiences??

Went to a DIVE flea market in NJ Sat...the highlight of the trip was seeing this reel.

It is what you would get if you took a Male Torium 20 and a Female Saltist 40 and stored them in the same box in the spring time.....21 days later a Quantum Cabo LPT 20 would be born...LOL!

The reel boasts the powerful oversize 6.2:1 gear box of the Torium (Gear box looks bigger!) with the rugged frame/sideplates/clutch of the Saltist. The Free spool appears to have a centrifigal brake system like the saltist and the reel boasts 9 ball bearings as well as a nice SS offset power handle/star drag wheel, and comes with a factory installed Carbon Fiber Drag (23# of drag out of the box!) They also claim six layers of corrosion protection built into the components.

Sounds like someone at Quantum must be reading the message boards.....and listened!! On the surface it looks like a reel up to the task...straight out of the box.

Your Thoughts??

Joe from what I have read about this reel, you are correct in stating that it is a hybrid mix of some of the most noted reels in its class. What comes to mind is a combination of the bigger Abu 7000 size, with the pulling power and drag system of the Shimano and Diawa reels you have mentioned.

Quantum has become a company that makes an excellent product for a very reasonable price, and I for one like both their spinning and conventional reels that they have on the market.

For a in depth review, one was done right here on this reel:

Quantum unifies conventional and low profile reel design to create the Cabo PT Baitcast

Steve....its not a baitcasting reel. It is Identical to the Torium/Saltist Genre of Reels and is listed on the Quantum site as a trolling reel.

I think the gear box is bigger than a Torium @ the same gear ratio of 6.2:1....that means the Pinion Gear is BIGGER. This reel in theory should crank better than a Torium...which, as I have mentioned before....Will outcrank a 4/0 senator any day of the week.

The drag has 5 larger carbon fibre washers in it and the spool has a centrifugal casting system much like the Saltist.....its like you took the best of both reels an made one reel out of them and added, Corrosion protection, a carbontex drag system and additional ball bearings...all of the things that are lacking in these reels.

The reel weighs 24.5 ounces...like the Saltist. Quantum should have named the reel a "Saltium" or a "Torist." :D

Last year I was using Quantum Cabo PT 60 for surf fishing. Was not happy with it at all. In one season I had to repair it 3 times. Twice was the anti-reverse and other time was the bail not clicking back. I purchased it because it was suppose to a great reel and did hear great things about the Cabos. I may of just got a lemon, who knows. Reel ended up getting stole from truck---Was kinda happy 8-)

Yep I know Joe on the size....its a bigger reel then you would think come from that company and if you look at the review they talk about the drag system on this reel.

Definitely a sleeper as being one of the better reels in its class that not many know about. I personally like to get one in my hands.

Quantum with their CABO PT line of reels definitely is on to something. Imagine if they had the marketing power of the Shimano and Diawas of the tackle world.....

Thanks Scampy..a few guys have them down here but I wasn't totally convinced thqat they are that good using them once in a blue moon off a boat.

Using it in the surf really puts it through the paces..thanks again.

IMO,In their class Finnor OFC-Quantum Cabo definately are much better reels than Penn or the Penns that come in different wrappers. They have large shaft bearings as opposed to bushings. The drag out of the box has more pulling power. Also better than shimano or Diawa,Shimano.I compared a 113,a pro gear 454,541,a saltist a shimano, in a dead weight test. The OFC 20 had more guts was smoother with a 15 lb load on than the 113,pro gear, saltist 40 or calcutta 700.The fit and finish on these reels is also a plus.I've been cod fishing my OFC 20 fairly hard for two years and only have had apart once when it was new to lube it.It still looks and works like new.I have it in my head to run this reel for as long as I can without taking it apart for maintainance just to see how many years it will last.

DTFISH......I have been doing a little research on this reel, and from what I see this may be one of the biggest kept secrets on the market as far as what Quantum built into what seems a top of the line saltwater reel.

From what little is available on the net, Quantum has taken whatever Shimano and Diawa have done to their front line Trinidad and Saltiga reels, and tweaked the LPT reels for even more performance.

I am going to try to get my hands on one and fish with it. The CNW30LPTSB may be a option for deep dropping for tile fish when loaded with braid.
