Though we are a fishing industry based site, what you see here is big shipping news as McAllister Towing is handling the loading of 7 Barges and 5 Tugs onto the Dockwise vessel “BLUE MARLIN” the other day.
REINAUER TRANSPORTATION COMPANIES, LLC which happens to be headquartered off of RIchmond Terrace in Staten Island, is retiring ahead of schedule 7 'single skin' hulled petroleum products carrying barges (GEORGE MORRIS, PUTNAM, BFT 39, BFT 50, RTC 41, RTC 70, & RTC 501) due to the 2015 OPA 90 (Oil Pollution Act of 1990 - Result of Exxon/Valdez spill) which mandates the use of a double skin vessel to conduct the movement and transportation of petroleum products.
The 5 tugs (DEAN REINAUER, JOHN REINAUER, CURTIS REINAUER, JANICE ANN REINAUER, & MAVERICK) were also included in a package that is going to a Nigerian based company.
The MV Dockwise "BLUE MARLIN" is a Norwegian built and now Netherlands owned heavy transportation semi-submersible vessel (marine moving truck) most noted for transporting the destroyer USS COLE after it was attacked and crippled in a Yemen port while fueling.
Here are some up close and personal shots of the loading being conducting by McAllister Towing & Transportation.
