Captain Bill Meyer (Hawkboat)

I born was raised in East Rockaway (Bay Park) NY. My first exposure to fishing was seining and trapping my own bait when I was about 6 or 7 years old. I fished in my early youth around, Macy’s Channel, Hewlett Bay, Reynolds Channel, the Atlantic Beach Bridge, and also different places heading east to Jones Beach Inlet, mostly bottom fishing for flounder and fluke. As I got older I moved out to Suffolk County NY fishing mostly Fire Island and Moriches Inlets but spent a good amount of time in Montauk and the North Fork of Long Island with family and friends.

I also was able to get taste of the commercial sector while doing some pin hooking for 2 different Captains in Montauk for Bass and Fluke. It really opened my eyes on hard these people work and there devotion to the way the make a living. My last 2 years on Long Island I spent fishing out of Shinnicock Inlet in Hampton Bays NY.

I now reside in Cape Coral, Florida now since 7/05 fishing for Tarpon, Snook, Red-fish, and Sheepshead etc., around Sanibel Island. Off shore fishing for an assortment of different types of fish, you name it we probably have it down here. I have also fished in the Keys, mostly the Marathon area both back bay and offshore. I have also fished in Quepos, Costa Rica for Pacific Sails and also Magdalena Bay in the Baja of Mexico.

I also hold a 50 Ton Master USCG License with a commercial tow endorsement.

I am proud to be a member here first and foremost and thank the administrators of FISHING UNITED having asked me to one of moderators for the Delaware to Florida Forum. I would be more then happy to advise anyone interested in fishing South West Florida on seasons, species to fish for inshore or off shore, and tackle to bring for the South West Region were I reside.

I look forward in helping making this site as informative, educational, and fun place to be for everyone from the novice to the experienced angler.
