Local Cod Report Friday Feb 5
We had a fantastic bite in the am over on the Viking Starship. High hook for the day was 36 keeper cod (only retaining limit) and plenty others also had their limit. Things got quiet later on. Larry Ross of Mt Arlington had a beautiful 32.8lbs cod and took home the first place in the pool. Denis Hoffer of Ronkonkoma took second place.
Capt Steven Sr reports from the V Star that we got ours! fishing was very very good we had excellent action right up till 8am. By then we basically had our limit and we bounced around looking for larger fish for pool contenders. Glen Evans took first prize with a 24lbs cod. A couple of highlights- Capt James Schnyder from the party boat James Joseph from Huntington joined us for his annual cod trip and he assisted us and had a phenomenal day with 31 cod (retaining his limit) between him and his 2 buddies they had 66 cod (retaining their limit) We'd like to thank Capt James for putting in a helping hand to get the fish cleaned up by the time we arrive back at the dock. Special honorable mention goes to the one and only out Frank Budinski who ended up with a nice cooler full of fillets. Mikayla Boch age 7 caught her first 3 cod fish ever and we're honored it was with us!
Capt Carl over on the Viking Superstar reports a good morning bite for a couple of hours. After that things shut down. We bounced around and tried many different spots but didn't get much going until late in the afternoon when we had a couple more flurries Robert Battaglia of Floral Park took first place with a 12lbs cod and Sal Cottone of Brooklyn NY took second place with an 11 pounder.
