Spent Friday out with my two sons at the Reef area. Fluked the outgoing tide and weeded through a ton of robins, a few sandsharks and skates , and 30 short fluke in the few hrs we fished. Snagged and livelined bunker in the shcools that were everywhere, nothing. Highlight of the trip had to be the Thresher shark that my 10 year old somehow managed to get tangled up in his rig, hooked in the side after missing the spro, and tail hooked the teaser above that. After 15 minutes of confusion and hoping the 5500c3 i just had serviced wouldnt be spooled, he got this girl boatside with a light 10-20lb tsunami baitcast rod, not a big fish, but after that fight the kids tells me now i can catch anything dad! lol. Cut her free and hopefully momma shark isnt too mad! lol.
I did get two keeper fluke too so theres a meal in the making for tonight! BOth keepers hit the spro with a fluke belly spearing combo, leaving the gulp alone. All other seemed to like the gulp swimming mullets better.
